To make certain my exam is accepted I need to make sure the camera is recording me at all times. How do I know I am being recorded?

Check your screen. The screen being recorded will be outlined in green. Under the green bar with 6 dots you will see your picture. If the box is black, there is no picture of you, Fix this issue immediately, or your exam will disqualified. You will also see a red flashing dot in the corner of your video recording.

How do I know how much time I have?

You will see the time remaining at the top of the examination. Your examination will end when the time runs out. Remember if you hide it you will have to unhide it to see. The exam ends at exactly the time you have allocated for the exam.

What happens if my internet provider experiences an outage?

If your internet provider experiences an outage and we are able to confirm with your internet provider that there was an internet outage CDECB we will review the number of questions answered (where you are at in the exam administration) and determine when you can next write the CDECB examination. The internet provider must confirm your outage. Make certain your own equipment works.

What do I enter as a CTFNno?

Your CTFNno is the number both CDECB and Top Hat identifies you with. Make certain you enter that number as your student number. Your number will begin with a “05”. Use the Zero part of the number. Failure to enter the correct number could result in an examination failure.

The Top Hat instructions say you cannot leave the room until you hand in the exam and the CDECB instructions say that you can leave to use the washroom. Please explain.

The Top Hat platform does not encourage candidates to leave the room. When a candidate leaves the room that candidate will be flagged by Top Hat. A proctor will review the flag. The CDECB does recognize the need for people to get up and use the washroom. No, the preparation you have to do to write the examination, completing the system diagnosis test, providing your identification is outside of the 3.5-hour exam period you have to complete the examination.
