The Canadian Diabetes Educator Certification Board announces the 2018 recipient – Kim Twyman
Kim Twyman, RN, BScN, CDE ® is the 2018 recipient of the Canadian Diabetes Educator Certification Board’s Award of Excellence and Dedication.
As an Advance Practice Nurse for Diabetes at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute Kim is responsible for the development and maintenance of an integrated diabetes management initiative within the UOHI in collaboration with the Division of Endocrinology including an out-patient discharge diabetes clinic in partnership with Champlain LHIN Community Diabetes Education Programs.
Kim demonstrates tremendous compassion when it comes to patient care. “Every day, she lives the values of a diabetes educator by providing client-centre care with commitment, dedication, excellence and knowledge”, states one of her nominators. Since 2001 Kim has volunteered with the DES Ottawa Chapter as program coordinator and then for nine years as Chapter Chair. She currently volunteers as Past Chair for the Ottawa Chapter Professional Section for Diabetes Canada.
Kim participated at Camp Banting between 2009 and 2013 and acted as the staff nurse. She was a founding member of a woman’s golf league and president of her local ringette association, also acting in the capacity of coach and trainer for ringette and baseball.
Perhaps it is best said by nominators: “Kim is not only dedicated to advancing diabetes care at our local level, but she exudes leadership in all levels of municipal, provincial and national healthcare. She is truly an influencer and role model for us all.”
