I Have Diabetes

How Can a CDE® Help Me?

A Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE®) is a health professional, committed to excellence in diabetes education, who has a sound knowledge base in diabetes care/management and education processes, as well as good communication skills and who have passed the Canadian Diabetes Educator Certification Board (CDECB) examination and or maintained their CDE® designation on an ongoing basis.

I need to find a Certified Diabetes Educator.

Certified Diabetes Educators are found in a variety of health care locations: hospitals, family health teams; community health centres; pharmacies, to name a few.

The most recent tool introduced by CDECB is “Find a CDE®”. Certified Diabetes Educators have the option to participate in the listing services to allow you, the public, to find a Certified Diabetes Educator. This voluntary search engine is designed for Certified Diabetes Educators who are available without a referral to receive your call.

I have a health care professional. Does that health care professional have a CDE® designation?

We have a tool for that! Just check online. If you find your health care professional then they do have a CDE® designation.

What benefits do I receive from my health care professional having a CDE® designation?

Your health care professional is part of an amazing community of health care professionals who have demonstrated their level of knowledge of diabetes. They are best poised to help you manage your diabetes.

As a member of the amazing community of Certified Diabetes Educators they CDE®s are able to network within that community.

“I became a CDE® in effort to better my community and my professional practice as a pharmacist. Diabetes is a common condition I found while providing care to patients. The knowledge from studying for my CDE® exam and continuing to educate myself enhances my knowledge on the condition. This knowledge allows myself to educate patients and help enhance patient understanding on how to control
their condition.”
